Pleasantville man pleads guilty to drug charge after stop by Atlantic City police

Jonathan G. Lopez, 35, admitted to a second-degree charge of possessing cocaine and fentanyl with intent to distribute, prosecutors said. His plea deal calls for five years in state prison.

MAYS LANDING — A Pleasantville man has pleaded guilty to a drug charge stemming from a traffic stop by Atlantic City police in which officers found cocaine and fentanyl, prosecutors said Thursday.

Jonathan G. Lopez, 35, pleaded guilty Oct. 19 to second-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute before Superior Court Judge Ralph Palone, according to prosecutors. The plea agreement calls for a sentence of five years in state prison.

Prosecutors said Atlantic City police officers pulled over a car for traffic violations on Dec. 8, 2025. Lopez was a passenger.

During the stop, a police dog alerted to the smell of drugs, according to prosecutors. When officers searched the car, they found a bag holding a large quantity of drugs on the floor on the passenger side, prosecutors said.

Lopez told officers the drugs were his and admitted he had more drugs on him, prosecutors said. He was arrested, and a lab report later found the drugs were cocaine and fentanyl.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 22.
